New Deputy UN envoy for Somalia meets with the President and Prime Minister

Mogadishu – The newly-appointed Deputy Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Somalia, Resident Coordinator, Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative for United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Peter de Clercq made his first visit to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud and Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke today.

DSRSG de Clercq was accompanied by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia (SRSG) Nicholas Kay who introduced him to President Mohamoud and Prime Minister Sharmarke. DSRSG de Clercq presented his credentials to the President who welcomed him warmly. The leaders held meetings with President Mohamoud and Prime Minister Sharmarke in their respective offices.

DSRSG de Clercq, who took the reins from his predecessor Philippe Lazzarini earlier this month, has previous experience in Somalia when he served as Senior Adviser to the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia and Deputy Special Representative for Somalia for the United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS) from 2012 to 2013.
