UN Envoy to Somalia welcomes release of hostages, calls for remaining captives to be freed
Mogadishu, 27 February 2015 – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia (SRSG), Nicholas Kay, welcomed the release on 25 February of four remaining crewmen of the FV Prantalay 12 vessel, taken hostage at sea by Somali pirates on 18 April 2010.

International partners welcome mediation efforts by local elders in the central regions
MOGADISHU, 24 February 2015 - The United Nations, African Union, European Union, Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), United Kingdom and the United States of America have welcomed efforts by local elders and business people in Somalia’s central regions to mediate a peaceful solution to the recent conflict in Guricel. They expressed concern about the humanitarian impact and loss of life stemming from the conflict and called upon all parties to refrain from violence.

UN Security Council Press Statement on Terrorist Attack in Mogadishu
New York, 20 February 2015 - The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Liu Jieyi (China):

The members of the Security Council strongly condemn the attack on 20 February on the Central Hotel in Mogadishu, perpetrated by Al-Shabaab, which has caused the death and injury of many innocent Somalis, including Government officials and Members of Parliament as well as staff at the hotel.  They expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, many of whom were gathered for Friday prayers, as well as to the people and Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia.  The members of the Security Council also wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Strongly Condemns Attack at Central Hotel in Mogadishu
New York, 20 February 2015 - The Secretary-General strongly condemns the terrorist attack today at the Central Hotel in Mogadishu, during Friday prayers, which resulted in the death and injury of many innocent Somalis, including government officials and Members of Parliament. In a phone call today to H.E.Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia, the Secretary-General expressed his deepest condolences to the Government of Somalia and the families of those killed, and wished the injured swift recovery.
