  • 20 Jan 2023 - Mogadishu –  International partners* welcome efforts by Somalia’s leaders to advance priorities on peacebuilding and state-building, including through the regular meetings of the National Consultative Council. In particular, we welcome the renewed focus on the constitutional review process, federal resource-and power-sharing, and reconciliation, all of which are crucial to ensuring Somalia’s long-term stability.
  • 01 Jan 2023 - Mogadishu –  International partners* are concerned about the violence in Laascaanood resulting in civilian deaths and casualties. Preventing violence and ensuring the protection of civilians is paramount. We call for calm and restraint. Tensions must be resolved through de-escalation and dialogue.
  • 10 Dec 2022 - Mogadishu – In observance of this year’s Human Rights Day, the United Nations in Somalia has called on Somalis to stand up for human rights to ensure that everyone, including members of vulnerable and marginalized communities, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons, and others who experience exclusion, may fully enjoy their rights and freedoms.
  • 03 Dec 2022 - Mogadishu – Marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), the United Nations in Somalia today commended the Somali authorities for their progress in recognizing the rights of persons with disabilities and encouraged them to build on their achievements. 
  • 29 Nov 2022 - New York – The Secretary-General strongly condemns Al-Shabaab’s latest attack on the Villa Rays Hotel in Mogadishu, resulting in multiple casualties. He is saddened that Somalia continues to be plagued by such heinous acts of terrorism and calls for the perpetrators to be held to account.
  • 25 Nov 2022 - Mogadishu – At the start of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the United Nations in Somalia calls for a redoubling of efforts to prevent and address violence against women and girls.
  • 01 Nov 2022 - New York – The Members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest possible terms the heinous terrorist attack by Al-Shabaab in Mogadishu, on 29th October 2022, which killed at least 100 people and injured more than 300. They expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, the people of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
  • 31 Oct 2022 - New York –The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by yesterday’s attack in Mogadishu, which killed over 100 people and wounded many more. He extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, which include United Nations staff, as well as the Government and people of Somalia. He wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.   
  • 03 Oct 2022 - New York – The Secretary-General condemns today’s attacks in Beletweyne, HirShabelle, perpetrated by Al-Shabaab, which resulted in many casualties, including state officials.  He extends his condolences to the families of the bereaved as well as the Government and people of Somalia. He wishes a swift recovery to the injured. 
  • 20 Aug 2022 - New York – The Secretary General strongly condemns the terrorist attack on the Hayat hotel in Mogadishu on 19 August. He expresses his deep condolences to the families of the victims as well as the Government and people of Somalia. He also wishes a swift recovery to the injured. The Secretary-General reiterates the solidarity of the United Nations with the Government and the people of Somalia in their fight against terrorism and their march towards peace.
