The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) was established on 3 June 2013. Its mandate ended on 31 October 2024, subsumed to the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS).

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Michael Keating, congratulates all Somalis on the occasion of Eid-al-Fitr.

“On behalf of the entire United Nations family in Somalia, I wish you a festive and peaceful Eid,” said SRSG Keating. “We join you in welcoming the sighting of the new moon that signals the end of the holy month of Ramadan. May the blessings of Eid bring families and friends together to celebrate in a spirit of goodwill and reconciliation. We hope this special time of the year will bring much happiness to Somalis at home and abroad and foster peace and prosperity throughout the country. Ciid Wanaagsan.”
