The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) was established on 3 June 2013. Its mandate ended on 31 October 2024, subsumed to the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS).

Acting UN Special Representative James Swan congratulates Somalia on 64th Independence anniversary

Mogadishu – The Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, James Swan, congratulates the people and government of Somalia on the 64th anniversary of their country’s independence.

“Hambalyo! Today’s celebration is an opportunity for all Somalis to take pride in the progress that is being made,” said Mr. Swan. “On behalf of the UN family in Somalia, I reaffirm the UN’s support to work closely with Somalia’s people and their leaders to build a peaceful, stable, inclusive and prosperous Somalia.”
