The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) was established on 3 June 2013. Its mandate ended on 31 October 2024, subsumed to the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS).

Yokohama – The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Republic of Somalia. They discussed latest political and security developments in Somalia, as well as the forthcoming deployment of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), as of 3 June.

The Secretary-General emphasized the commitment of the United Nations to continue its strong support to peacebuilding in Somalia, including through good offices and by helping to coordinate international support. He emphasized that humanitarian assistance will continue to be delivered to those in need.
