UN Special Representative for Somalia condemns attack on United Arab Emirates convoy in Mogadishu

Mogadishu – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia (SRSG), Nicholas Kay, condemns in the strongest terms today’s attack on a United Arab Emirates convoy in Mogadishu that resulted in some casualties. Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the attack.“I condemn today’s appalling attack against innocent civilians and dedicated international officials who are providing critical peace-building and state building support to Somalia,” said SRSG Nicholas Kay. “The attack is an attempt to deter and undermine those from the international community working with Somalis to build a better Somalia. These terrorists will not achieve that objective.”

SRSG Kay offers his sincere condolences to the family and friends of all those who have suffered, as well as to the government of the United Arab Emirates.

He reiterates the UN’s unfaltering commitment to fighting the scourge of terrorism and supporting Somalia and the region to ensure security and stability.
