UN Special Representative for Somalia condemns attack in Mogadishu

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia (SRSG), Nicholas Kay, condemns, in the strongest terms, yesterday’s car bomb attack on a busy road in Mogadishu that resulted in the death and injury of many people. Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack.

“I condemn yesterday’s appalling attack against innocent civilians, many of whom were going about their daily shopping. The use of such indiscriminate tactics against the Somali people is a cruel and despicable crime,” said SRSG Kay.

SRSG Nicholas Kay extends his deep condolences to the families and friends of all those who have suffered as a result of yesterday’s attacks.

He reiterates the UN’s unfaltering commitment to supporting Somalia and the region to ensure security and stability.
