The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) was established on 3 June 2013. Its mandate ended on 31 October 2024, subsumed to the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS).

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia (SRSG), Michael Keating, extends his heartfelt greetings to the Somali people as they celebrate Eid-al-Adha, marking the end of Hajj, the holy pilgrimage to Mecca.

“As Somalia celebrates Eid-al-Adha, I wish all Somalis and their families Eid Mubarak. Today is a time for thoughtful reflection, selflessness and to remember those who are less fortunate than ourselves. I hope this spirit of compassion and harmony can contribute to peace and stability across Somalia. Ciid Wanaagsan!" SRSG Keating said.
