Closure of UNSOM

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) was established on 3 June 2013. Its mandate ended on 31 October 2024, subsumed to the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS).

Statement attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General on Somalia

New York – The Secretary-General condemns today’s terrorist attack in the vicinity of Mogadishu International Airport. He expresses sincere condolences to the friends and families of the deceased, and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.

The Secretary-General reaffirms that such criminal acts will not diminish the strong resolve of the United Nations to continue supporting the people and Government of Somalia in their work to build peace and stability in the country.
