Closure of UNSOM

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) was established on 3 June 2013. Its mandate ended on 31 October 2024, subsumed to the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS).

UN Special Representative James Swan congratulates Somalia on 62nd independence anniversary

Mogadishu – The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, James Swan, congratulates the people and government of Somalia on the 62nd anniversary of their country’s independence.

He reiterates the United Nations’ continued commitment to supporting the Federal Government of Somalia, the Federal Member States, and the people of Somalia in their endeavour to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for their country.
