Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration
UNSOM’s DDR activities are a crucial component in stabilizing Somalia and preventing violent extremism.
The Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) Section assists the Federal Government of Somalia to implement a national program for the treatment and handling of disengaged combatants, within the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) framework. It provides technical advice and capacity building on DDR for Federal Government and the Federal Member States. The section also assists with the coordination of donors’ support, as well as the support of international implementing partners and national stakeholders on the planning and implementation of DDR-related activities. DDR team comprises national and international officers. Through their presence in three field offices and in Mogadishu, the DDR team provides assistance both at Federal Government and at Federal Member State levels and ensures proximity to communities.
