International partners welcome swearing-in of Parliament; urge rapid completion of electoral process14 Apr 2022 - Mogadishu – International partners* welcome today’s swearing-in of newly-elected members of Somalia’s House of the People and Upper House. After a period of more than one year in which all Somali elected institutions exceeded their constitutional timelines, we are pleased that the new parliament is now in place. We strongly condemn the mortar attack, claimed by al-Shabaab, that occurred earlier in the day near the location of the swearing-in ceremony.

12 Apr 2022 - Mogadishu – Somalia is facing famine conditions as a perfect storm of poor rain, skyrocketing food prices and huge funding shortfalls leaves almost 40% of Somalis on the brink. Millions of Somalis are at risk of sliding into famine as the impact of a prolonged drought continues to destroy lives and livelihoods, and growing needs outpace available resources for humanitarian assistance, United Nations agencies warned today.

24 Mar 2022 - New York – The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Lana Zaki Nusseibeh (United Arab Emirates): The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks that took place in the Aden Adde International Airport area in Mogadishu, and Beledweyne, Hirshabelle on 23 March 2022. These attacks, claimed by Al-Shabaab, resulted in the death of dozens of people and injured many more.
