I would like to begin my conversation with you this morning by thanking the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia for the invitation and excellent cooperation extended to me during the visit.

Let me begin by expressing my gratitude for the really warm welcome you've extended to me and my team. Since my arrival in Somalia in early June. I've been touring around the Federal Member States; indeed, I was due to be here in June, but His Excellency the President Hassan Sheikh (Mohamud) called a meeting on the day I was due to come here. But I'm delighted to be here now.
01 Jul 2023 - Mogadishu – On the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Somalia’s independence, the United Nations congratulates the people of Somalia and praises their commitment towards building a better future.
“On behalf of the UN family in Somalia, I salute the people of Somalia and reaffirm the UN’s support to ensure an inclusive, peaceful and prosperous Somalia” said the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Catriona Laing.
21 Jun 2023 - Mogadishu – International partners* are concerned about the violence in Garowe and its impact on civilians.
The partners call for the immediate de-escalation of tensions and a return to calm. We call on all political stakeholders to engage in dialogue as the only avenue to address and resolve differences.
The recent escalation risks jeopardizing the positive outcomes secured following the recent district council elections in Puntland.
19 Jun 2023 - Mogadishu – On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, the United Nations in Somalia today called for enhancing the legal protection of all Somalis from sexual violence.

It is such a pleasure to be back in Kismayo. I was here in the original UN Mission during the mid-1990s, where I had a very nice visit to the port and so on. So, it is really wonderful to be back.
