Five more candidates were elected today to seats in the House of the People in Banaadir region and HirShabelle state in the latest round of voting.

Three more candidates have been elected to the House of the People in the past two days from the states of HirShabelle, South West and Galmudug as the electoral process enters its final stage.
"I believe cultural change will favour women, especially when we move to party politics, where leaders are elected on the basis of their manifestos and not gender,” the words of Suldan Warsame Suldan Alio Ibrow, an influential clan elder from Somalia’s South West state.

Mohamud Hassan Elmi, Deputy Chair of the Jubbaland State Level Indirect Electoral Independent Team says they benefited greatly from the support of the state authorities which gave them the independence to conduct their work unhindered.
On 24 November Jubbaland became the first Federal State in Somalia to conclude selection of candidates for seats in the House of the People. Now the state's electoral officials are being invited by other Federal States to share their recipe for success.

South West State has filled 66 seats out of the 69 allocated after today’s voting which has elected Hanifa Mohamed Ibrahim, formerly a gender officer for the South West presidency.

Two candidates were voted to the House of the People as the electoral process for Banaadir region started today.
The peaceful exercise saw the re-election of former second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mahad Abdalla Awad, and newcomer Khalid Maow Abdulkadir.

Seven more candidates have been elected in the past two days to the House of the People in the ongoing electoral process in Galmudug and HirShabelle states.
The United Nations has commenced training of Galmudug State Assembly members to strengthen their legislative capacities, as part of ongoing efforts to build nascent Federal State institutions in Somalia.
