Mogadishu – The UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, Nicholas Kay, today condemned an attack on the headquarters of the Somali government in Mogadishu.
New York - The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms the attack today on Villa Somalia, the seat of the Somali government in Mogadishu. He expresses his condolences to the families of those killed and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
Mogadishu – The joint UN and AMISOM working group on the Human Rights Due Diligence Policy (HRDDP) held its inaugural meeting in Mogadishu on 15 February, discussing a range of ways to build national institutions with a strong human rights foundation in Somalia.
The members of the Security Council are outraged by today’s terrorist attack which targeted a UN convoy in Mogadishu, for which Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility and which has caused numerous deaths and injuries.
Mogadishu - A vehicle exploded close to a convoy of UN vehicles about 12.30 today near the international airport in Mogadishu. The UN in Somalia strongly condemns the attack and expresses deep sorrow at the reported deaths and injuries of Somali bystanders.
Mogadishu - The Japanese ambassador Tatsushi Terada handed over today office equipment to the Somali Police Force (SPF), procured and delivered through the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), in a further sign of the international community’s support to Somalia in security
Kismayo - Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Fatiha Serour, paid a visit to Kismayo on 5 February, where she met with the Leader of the Interim Jubba Administration (IJA), Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed Islan Madobe, and members of his cabinet.
