We’re very lucky to have George on the team – he served in Somalia for many years including time here as UNDP director.

29 May 2023 - New York – The Secretary-General strongly condemns the recent attack against the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) base, staffed by Ugandan peacekeepers, in Buulo Mareer, Lower Shabelle, Somalia.
The Secretary-General conveys his heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed as well as to the Government and people of Uganda. He wishes a speedy and full recovery to the injured.
22 May 2023 - Mogadishu – Ahead of district council elections in Puntland on 25 May, Somalia’s international partners* commend the people of the Federal Member State of Puntland for their determination to deliver on their democratic aspirations and commitments.
The partners acknowledge the efforts, notably by the Transitional Puntland Electoral Commission (TPEC), to overcome significant challenges in preparing for this historic event of direct elections.
