Deputy UN Special Representative for Somalia visits Kismayo

Kismayo - The Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (DSRSG) for Somalia, Fatiha Serour, today visited Kismayo, where she met with the leadership of the Interim Jubba Administration, led by the Deputy IJA Leader Abdulkadir Mohamed Lugadere.

While in Kismayo, DSRSG Serour thanked the Interim Jubba Administration for their efforts to foster reconciliation and expressed the support of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Somalia (UNSOM) towards the Jubba reconciliation conference that is expected to be held in the coming weeks.

During her visit, DSRSG Serour also visited the disengaged combatants that were aligned to Col. Bare Hirale, who recently agreed to participate in a reconciliation process and for his irregular military forces to present themselves for screening and potential integration into the Somali National Army (SNA) with the support of the Federal Government of Somalia. She made an appeal to all militants still engaged in combat to embrace peace.
