Mogadishu – The recently appointed Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia and Head of Mission of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM), James Swan, arrived in Mogadishu today to take up his duties.

Baidoa – A senior United Nations (UN) official has cautioned that the harsh drought conditions currently afflicting much of Somalia are likely to trigger a major humanitarian crisis if immediate action is not taken to contain the situation.

Fifty years have elapsed since Somalia held its last one-person, one-vote election, and that extended drought of democracy was the main motivation of Aziza Ali when she joined the United Nations Integrated Electoral Support Group (IESG) in Somalia.
