New York – I am grateful to the Council and the Secretary-General for giving me the floor. I am delighted to be here with HE Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke, Prime Minister of Somalia, whose constant support for the UN is deeply appreciated.

I commend the United Kingdom for convening this Ministerial Meeting and for its longstanding leadership on Somalia. The stakes are high. The international community must stand strong with Somalia.

A toll free hotline is now available to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Mogadishu and other parts of Somalia for  reporting cases of gender-based violence and other violations of human rights.
