UN Envoy Kay condemns the killing of UN contractor in Beletweyne, Somalia

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Nicholas Kay, condemns the killing of Mr. Mahdi Hussein Macow, a contractor for the United Nations and Somali civilian, by armed elements in Beletweyne yesterday.

“I condemn in the strongest terms this senseless attack on a UN contractor in Beletweyne yesterday," said SRSG Kay. "I have urged the Federal Government of Somalia to launch an immediate and rigorous investigation into this incident and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice."

SRSG Kay extends his deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Mahdi Hussein Macow and expresses gratitude for his outstanding work in support of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia.

“The United Nations remains undeterred in our efforts to help the Somali people realize their aspirations for a secure and stable future,” SRSG Kay added.
