Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General

New York – The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms the 27 July 2013 terrorist attack on the office housing Turkish personnel in Mogadishu.

The Secretary-General expresses his heartfelt condolences to the people of Turkey and its Government, as well as to the Somali people. His thoughts are with the families and friends of those killed and injured.

Turkey is an important partner of the Federal Government of Somalia and is trying under very difficult circumstances to assist the people of the country in their efforts to achieve peace, stability and development. Terrorist attacks of this nature should not deter Somalia’s partners or weaken their resolve to stand by the people and Government of Somalia as they work courageously to build peace in their country.
