  • 11 Mar 2019 - This is a very sad day for the United Nations. As you may know, today's (Sunday, 10 March) tragic plane crash in Ethiopia claimed many lives, including several of our own UN colleagues from multiple organisations of the UN system.

They held open, cordial, and frank discussions while committing to strengthen the relationship between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the United Nations (UN).

  • 01 Jan 2019 -   PRESS STATEMENT 01/2019 Mogadishu - The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General on Somalia, Nicholas Haysom, condemned in the strongest possible terms today’s indirect fire attack on the main United Nations compound in the Somali capital. Seven mortars landed inside the compound this afternoon, injuring two UN staff members and one contractor. None of the injuries is life-threatening.

  • 25 Nov 2018 -   PRESS STATEMENT 13/2018 Mogadishu – Launching the ‘16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence’ in Somalia today, the United Nations called on all sectors of Somali society to take concrete steps to help bring an end to such violence.
  • 10 Nov 2018 - The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attacks of 9 November 2018, which killed and injured innocent Somalis. The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and Government of Somalia.  The members of the Security Council wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
