It's such a great pleasure to be back here in Baidoa, and I want to say a huge thank you to Mr. President and his team for welcoming me here today. Sadly, this is also my farewell call as I depart Somalia fairly soon.
09 Apr 2024 - Mogadishu — The United Nations in Somalia extends its warmest greetings to all Somalis as they celebrate the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
04 Apr 2024 - Mogadishu – On the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, the United Nations reaffirms their support to Somalia in protecting the lives of civilians from the explosive hazards and building peace through the development of national explosive threat mitigation capacity.
31 Mar 2024 - Mogadishu – Somalia’s international partners* commend the efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia and the Federal Parliament to ensure Somalia’s compliance with international and regional human rights obligations, including the rights of the child. We look forward to future cooperation with Somalia as it consolidates its role in the international arena.
27 Jan 2024 - New York – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the appointment of Raisedon Zenenga of Zimbabwe as his new Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM).
Mr. Zenenga succeeds Anita Kiki Gbeho of Ghana, to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for her dedicated service in Somalia.
18 Jan 2024 - Mogadishu – A United Nations-contracted cargo plane today crashed while landing on an air-strip in El-Barde in Somalia’s South West State.
The aircraft was transporting humanitarian supplies for the World Food Programme when it veered off the runway. Initial reports indicate there was one fatality and two people injured.
