The UN Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) closed its operations on 31 October 2024, and was succeeded by the UN Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) as of Friday, 1 November, in line with the UN Security Council’s resolution 2753.
The change reflects the progress in the country and is also in line with the request of the Federal Government of Somalia for a two-year transition of UNSOM’s functions to the United Nations Country Team by October 2026.

The members of the Security Council condemned the attack in the strongest terms. The members of the Security Council extended their condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.

He expresses his condolences to the families of those killed and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured. He pays tribute to the Somali National Forces and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) for their efficient and professional response in repelling the attackers.
20 Feb 2014 - New York – The members of the Security Council condemn in the strongest terms yesterday’s attack on a hotel in Bula Burde, Somalia, for which Al Shabaab has claimed responsibility and has caused numerous deaths and injuries. The members of the Security Council expressed their condolences to the families of the victims, which included members of the Somalia National Army, AMISOM, and civilians. The members of the Security Council also wished a swift recovery to those injured.
16 Feb 2014 - Mogadishu – The joint UN and AMISOM working group on the Human Rights Due Diligence Policy (HRDDP) held its inaugural meeting in Mogadishu on 15 February, discussing a range of ways to build national institutions with a strong human rights foundation in Somalia.
