  • 28 Jul 2013 - Mogadishu – SRSG Nicholas Kay strongly condemns the suicide attack against an office housing Turkish staff earlier today in Mogadishu which reportedly ended in deaths and injuries. This is one of the several attacks that Al Shabaab has carried out during the holy month of Ramadan.

  • 08 Jul 2013 - Mogadishu – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Nicholas Kay, has learnt with deep sorrow of the killing of Libaan Abdullahi Farah ‘Qaran’ a reporter of Somali Kalsan TV based in Gaalkacyo. Reports suggest that Libaan was shot dead last night while returning home from duty.
  • 29 Jun 2013 - Mogadishu – The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Somalia, Nicholas Kay, today urgently called for an immediate cessation of hostilities as armed clashes flared up again in Somalia's southern port city of Kismayo among groups claiming leadership over the “Jubbaland” regional administration. Reports suggest serious clashes over the last days have led to a number of casualties, including civilian deaths.
  • 20 Jun 2013 - Mogadishu – The Security Council is outraged by the attack on a UN compound in Mogadishu today, for which Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility and which has caused numerous deaths and injuries. The members of the Security Council extend their condolences to the victims and their families, as well as to the people and the Government of Somalia. The members of the Security Council commend the brave response to the attack by the Somali Armed Forces and AMISOM.
  • 19 Jun 2013 - Mogadishu – The UN Special Representative for the Secretary-General for Somalia, Nicholas Kay, condemned the violent attack on the United Nations Common Compound in Mogadishu. At about 11:30 this morning, a pickup truck rigged with explosives was detonated outside the gate of the UN compound, and attackers then entered on foot. Gunfire and further explosions followed, as staff took refuge in secure areas.
